In 2004, June Callwood worked with the Casey House board of directors to create the June Callwood Legacy Fund™.

Legacy Fund

The June Callwood Legacy Fund is an endowed fund. This means that the principal of the fund is maintained, while interest income is used to ensure that the characteristic kindness and compassion that June fostered at Casey House will endure forever and continue to make a difference in the lives of those with HIV/AIDS.

What the Fund supports:

The Resident Care and Comfort Fund

Provides for basic necessities that bring comfort and enhance care for our clients. Many of our residents and home care clients are without the means to pay for some of their most basic comforts and needs. This fund covers the costs of such items as long distance telephone calls to family members who live out of town; basic necessities (toothbrushes, socks, slippers, pajamas, razors, toothpaste, etc.) for those who come to Casey House with nothing or very little; special food for those who have a great deal of trouble eating or are experiencing nausea.

Recreational Therapy

Provides materials, activities, outings and events that are of interest to our clients and help to improve their psychological well-being. Recreational experiences help to lessen feelings of anxiety, sadness, hopelessness, fear and social isolation– these challenges faced by our clients have a direct impact on the success of their care and influence their overall health.

Holistic, Complementary and Alternative Medicine

A small range of these services are delivered in conjunction with medicines to help provide a more comprehensive and holistic care plan. Because of the severe, multiple side effects of long-term antiretroviral drug therapy and the complications of HIV/AIDS, the inclusion of massage and other complementary therapies is important to patient care and well-being.

Education and Professional Development

Helps Casey House nurses, social workers and volunteers to explore new possibilities in care delivery so they are better able to understand and meet the changing needs of those who live with HIV/AIDS.
