Charles Anyinam
Charles Anyinam
Charles Anyinam is an accomplished registered nurse (RN) and educator with over 20 years of experience in health care and post-secondary education. Dr. Anyinam is an associate professor in the School of Nursing at Nipissing University and was the university’s inaugural teaching chair in equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) (2021-2023). He holds adjunct professorships at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and Ontario Tech University. Before joining Nipissing University, Charles held educator and administrative leadership roles at York University, Trent University and George Brown College. He also practiced direct care in mental health and health promotion from 2000-2012.
Charles obtained his BSc. and MSc. in nursing from McMaster University and his PhD in critical disability studies through the School of Health Policy and Management at York University. His areas of specialization and research include EDI in nursing, and in disability and work. Charles works to ameliorate inequities for populations experiencing intersectional disadvantages and support an accessible Canadian agenda. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at major national and international conferences.
Charles’ excellence in leadership and education has been acknowledged through several prestigious awards, including the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario’s (RNAO) Leadership Award in Nursing Education and the 2022 Nipissing University Chancellors Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Paul Boniferro is a seasoned executive, trusted leader and advisor, and labour and employment lawyer. His insight and skills in change-management and negotiation, and ability to navigate complex political terrain, have helped public and private sector organizations implement impactful solutions through technology and talent management. Paul has led teams of more than 8,000 people and overseen budgets of more than $2 billion. He was formerly the Deputy Attorney General of Ontario, where he managed relationships with significant and complex stakeholders, developed and implemented a multi-year strategy, and was Senior Crown Law Advisor to Government on all matters. Paul’s responsibilities included the administration of all adjudicative tribunals as well as criminal, civil and family courts, and legal and legislative drafting for all government and key provincial agencies such as the Alcohol and Gaming Commission, Legal Aid Ontario and the Human Rights Commission. Paul practiced law for more than 22 years at McCarthy Tétrault, where he was also national leader of people and practices and served on the board of partners, co-managing the 600-lawyer firm with the CEO. A proud native of Sault Ste Marie, Paul holds a Bachelor of public administration policy from Western University, and a law degree from Osgoode Hall. Committed to the community, he has been a member of the Algoma University board of governors, Casey House’s Rebuilding Lives capital campaign cabinet, and the board of directors of FitSpirit Foundation, and Friends of Ruby (previously Égale Youth Services).

Joseph Bonnici is is a partner and the executive creative director of Bensimon Byrne. For the past 8 years he has helped Bensimon Byrne grow into one of the largest independent agencies in Canada. In 2018, Bensimon Byrne was named AdAge’s Small International Agency of the Year. For the past two years he has partnered with Casey House to smash the stigma around HIV. First, with the ground breaking June’s HIV+ Eatery which spawned a documentary currently airing on HBO. And most recently, with Healing House, the world’s first HIV+ Spa. Together, the two campaigns resulted in over 1000 news stories globally and helped make Casey House a leading voice in the fight against HIV stigma.

Lindsay Broadhead is the SVP, communications and public affairs at Toronto Region Board of Trade. She has 20+ years of experience providing clients with corporate communications, campaign, issues and crisis counsel, and project support. This includes eight years in London, England where she led international clients before returning to Toronto to manage a number of large, complex files. She has worked for integrated communications agencies such as H+K Strategies, Ogilvy PR Worldwide, and Counsel Public Affairs, working closely with a broad array of disciplines such as advertising, marketing, government relations, digital and social communications. Providing strategic counsel on all files, Lindsay also loves to roll-up her sleeves and get the work done well, be it writing, planning, media relations, training, or stakeholder engagement. Most recently, Lindsay launched and continues to run her own communications business, Broadhead Communications. Lindsay holds a master of arts in contemporary art history from Goldsmith’s College, University of London, and a bachelor of arts in both international development and classics from the University of King’s College and Dalhousie University. David holds a master of health science, health administration, health policy management & evaluation and bachelor of science in occupational therapy from the University of Toronto. Since 2021, David has been a Board member of Sherbourne Health, an organization providing health care programs and services to the diverse communities of mid-east Toronto.

Michael Ghent completed a BSc at the University of Toronto and a post-graduate degree in France before beginning his media career by attending the Vancouver Film School. There, he produced and directed his first documentary about long-term HIV survivors, A Stretch of Time, followed by Tested, a docudrama for the CBC. Michael was appointed cultural program director for the XI International Conference on HIV/AIDS 1996 in Vancouver, where he created public facing forums, arts exhibits, live performance series and perhaps the world’s first HIV/AIDS related film festival, the One World Screen Festival. He was production executive for Global Television, responsible for over 500 hours of factual programming in numerous genres, won a Gemini for best documentary series Global Currents and was writer/producer on numerous productions across Canada. He has served on the board of directors for Whistler Film Festival, Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, and Compassionate Eye Foundation. Michael returned to Ontario in 2015, where he is the director of public affairs for Addictions & Mental Health Ontario.

Before working in the entertainment industry, Brad worked in various roles in the legal sector. She is also a SEC Filing Reviewing Partner and Canadian Securities Engagement Partner. As a partner, Gale has been involved with KPMG’s largest and most complex clients for over 20 years. She is a member of the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions’ Deposit-taking Institutions Auditors Advisory Committee and a past member of the OSC’s Disclosure Advisor Committee, as well as a CPA Canada’s Accounting Standards Board and IFRS Discussion Group. She holds a B.Comm degree from the University of Toronto, and is a chartered professional accountant.
Gale is passionate about giving back to her community. Prior to joining the board of Casey House, she was a non-director member of its finance committee between 2021-23. She has served on a number of not-for-profit boards, is currently the chair of the Daily Bread Food Bank board, and was recently appointed chair of the Art Gallery of Ontario’s Foundation board. She is a long-time supporter of Casey House, having participated in its annual Art With Heart charitable auction for over a decade.

Wolf Klassen has over 25 years of healthcare leadership experience. He is the vice president, program support at Michael Garron Hospital (MGH)/Toronto East Health Network, a full service community teaching hospital and was interim president and CEO August 2022-June 2023. In that role, he was responsible for overseeing a $500-million redevelopment project, played a leading role in the development of the 2022-25 strategic plan and became an executive member of East Toronto Health Partner (ETHP), one of the province’s first Ontario health teams. He also served as executive lead for MGH and ETHP’s COVID-19 vaccination program, which involved more than 350 staff delivering over 600,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Wolf holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Health Science in health administration from the University of Toronto. He is a certified health executive with the Canadian College of Health Leaders and completed the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management executive program in understanding the new world of healthcare. Wolf is also an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto’s Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation and has served as a board member on several community organizations.

He completed his medical degree at the University of Manitoba and residency at Western University, and is a faculty member at both the University of Toronto and Western University. He currently serves in a senior leadership role as the associate director, programs and practice support at the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). Stephen Ranger has been involved in the auction and fine art business for 35 years and has held leadership positions in major Canadian auction houses since 1995. Educated at the University of Toronto, he established the first commercial wine auctions in Canada and partnered with Sotheby’s Canada for the sale of important Canadian art, realizing record setting price records for both new and established artists. Stephen lends his expertise to over twenty-five non-profit and philanthropic organizations each year, raising over $3 million annually through fundraising events. He is past board president of the Dreamwalker Dance Company and an ambassador for Swim Drink Fish Canada. For 25 years, Stephen has been the lead auctioneer for Casey House’s Art With Heart. Stephen maintains a private art consultancy offering advisory and appraisal services to leading corporations, individuals and institutions and in 2020 founded a new venture Ranger Wine.

Gregory Robinson has been living with HIV/AIDS for over 40 years and has developed multiple co-morbidities related to HIV, treatment and ageing. Greg is also a physician by training with sub-specialties in family medicine, public health and preventive medicine. His academic and professional career has involved being a family physician; public health physician; and teaching and research at the University of Toronto and McMaster University. His career interests are human sexuality; HIV/AIDS health care, rehabilitation and support; end of life care, and community-based research. He is the very honoured recipient of the first CWGHR Award of Excellence in HIV Rehabilitation. Greg is retired from medical practice and continues to be active volunteering at Casey House and Realize (formerly CWGHR). Greg is a strong advocate for expanding choices for people living with HIV/AIDS including health promotion, care, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Kathleen Sheehan is a staff psychiatrist with the medical psychiatry program at University Health Network and an assistant professor in the division of consultation-liaison psychiatry at the University of Toronto. She is a principal investigator on research projects funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Prior to her medical training, Kathleen obtained both her Masters in neuroscience and Doctorate in social psychiatry at the University of Oxford. She is a graduate of the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University and completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Toronto. Her clinical work and research work focuses on the care of individuals with co-occurring physical and mental illnesses, with a special interest in quality of care.

She is frequently sought after as an advisor, speaker, and leader on providing strategies and guidance in Indigenous-related initiatives. She is the current national co-chair and previous Ontario co-chair for the Royal Eagles, the Indigenous employee resource group at RBC, and the external co-chair of the Indigenous education council at OCAD University. In 2019, she received the RBC Global Citizen Award, which recognizes RBC employees who have proven exceptional commitment to creating positive social impact in their community.

Dean Valentine CD, is a veteran of The Royal Canadian Navy and his professional competencies were gained through over 25 years of dedicated service to the Canadian Forces logistics branch. He has been employed in a vast spectrum of working environments domestically and internationally, providing human resource management and financial support services. Dean is a current member of the Minister of Health’s Patient Family Advisory Council, and is actively involved with the development of the Downtown East Toronto Ontario Heath Team as a patient partner core group member and co-chair of its community engagement working group. Dean wishes to disclose and identifies as a person living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. It is his personal journey, both successes and challenges, since being diagnosed in 2008, which inspires a commitment to community building through engagement with initiatives that improve navigation of our health care networks. He has participated with a variety of peer support programing in mental health and addictions, and is a passionate advocate of establishing mindful approaches to patient-centred care. He brings this energy to Casey House to advocate for the empowerment of the lives of those living with HIV and AIDS.

Kevin Velicaria is a graduate of McMaster University’s Family Medicine program, where he is now an associate clinical professor. As a practicing physician, Kevin serves a diverse population of people as a member of the Hamilton Family Health Team. In addition to his educational work in Hamilton, Kevin works within the GTA as a team physician for the Canadian Elite Basketball League, and as an attending physician within the University Health Network.
