BMO FINANCIAL GROUP PRESENTS SNOWBALL 2013: CHROMA
A gala evening marking 25 years of care at Casey House
Thank you to our community for an unforgettable night marking 25 years of support for compassionate HIV care at Casey House!
On Saturday, March 23, Ryerson’s Mattamy Athletic Centre was transformed into a vibrant and sophisticated backdrop for SnowBall 2013: CHROMA, presented by BMO Financial Group. The event raised over $400,000 for compassionate HIV/AIDS care at Casey House, Toronto’s HIV/AIDS specialty hospital.
Co-chaired by celebrity designers Tommy Smythe and Arren Williams along with Spafax’s Raymond Girard, the evening was a very special commemoration of Casey House’s 25th anniversary.
After a cocktail party sponsored by Jamieson, 300 guests were welcomed by emcee Maggie Cassella and special guest Jeanne Beker, who reflected on the losses experienced by the media and fashion community at the onset of the AIDS epidemic. Guests were moved by a 25th anniversary video highlighting the work accomplished at Casey House since our doors opened in 1988.
Seated at communal harvest tables, guests shared a four-course meal designed and prepared by Chef Lynn Crawford and Chef Lora Kirk of Ruby Watchco, in collaboration with Daniel et Daniel.
Following the video presentation, Jaime Watt, Chair of the Casey House Rebuilding Lives Capital Campaign, described the future vision for the redevelopment and significant expansion of Casey House programs and services.
An inspirational highlight of the evening was the presentation of The Casey Awards, created in memory of June Callwood, a founder of Casey House. This year’s recipients were the late John Plater, a hemophiliac who fought for justice for people infected by HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C, as well as Vancouver’s Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation which is helping to lead the advancement of HIV/AIDS care throughout the world with its pioneering HIV/AIDS Day Health Program (a program soon to be launched at Casey House). The Casey Awards were kindly sponsored by RBC Royal Bank.

Guests danced in the aisles enjoying a jazz performance by two-time Juno recipient Molly Johnson, followed by a very special reunion of DQ personalities Dyna Thirst, Roxy Terrain, Candi Barr and Hollywood. Then the party kicked it up a notch with an additional influx of 200 lounge party guests ready to dance, inspired by a smokin’ hot dance performance choreographed by Scott Fordham.
The party continued into the wee hours under dozens of illuminated giant balloon orbs, with tunes spun by duelling DJs Daniel Buckman of BELLOSOUND and fireball DJ/producer Ticky Ty. The evening was a birthday party beyond compare, with event design passionately conceived by William Fulghum Design Associates and generously provided in kind by The Event Company, Contemporary Furniture Rentals, Ballon Trix and Stemz.
All of us at Casey House are deeply grateful to attendees for joining us to show their support, as well as the generosity of our sponsors and volunteers who made this extraordinary night possible. Thank you for giving compassion a home at Casey House.
