A small electrical fire broke out just after midnight Thursday January 14, 2016 at the historic house known as the Grey Lady that is part of Casey House’s redevelopment project.

Fire trucks responded quickly to a call of an exterior fire at 571 Jarvis St. and were able to extinguish it within an hour.  No one was injured and remarkably, there has been no damage to the building.

It appears that the source of the fire was an electrical short at the junction where the wires enter the house from the street.  Toronto Hydro was brought in to investigate and temporarily turned off all power to the site.  Minor repairs to the exterior wiring are underway and the construction work is expected to resume within the next two days.

Casey House is thankful for the quick response of the Toronto Fire Department, and the comprehensive follow-up of our contractor, Bird Construction.
