Inter-Professional Collaboration

Collaboration, working as a team and valuing different perspectives, has always been an integral part of the culture of Casey House. As needs change, we reach out to a wide community of care providers and resources. People living with HIV/AIDS inevitably see a customized range of care providers, including medical professionals, social workers, spiritual counsellors, and complementary therapists, just to name a few.

For example, a recently diagnosed young male may require support from Casey House community staff and volunteers as well as outside youth workers, health educators and support group leaders. His needs are quite different from those of a 45-year old single woman, living with her teenage child and extended family, who has recently been hospitalized with diabetes on top of her HIV diagnosis. She may require inter-professional collaboration from endocrinologists, health educators, primary care practitioners, nurses, personal support workers, dieticians, pharmacists, volunteers, social workers, case managers and self-management practitioners.

By committing to increased inter-professional collaboration, Casey House will work to ensure minimal overlap and duplication, and maximum knowledge sharing and service delivery, among all care providers.
