Needs Based Care

HIV/AIDS no longer means imminent end of life, but the disease is episodic and multi-faceted. Hence, the role of professionals and care givers must shift to help clients to build control back into their lives. Needs-based, flexible, individualized care is adjusted according to the client's status as the disease progresses along a continuum. We deliver a wide range of services that clients help to identify - from self-care counselling and social visiting, to medical intervention and rehabilitation, to palliative care.

For example, someone whose health is stable may require access to information, supportive counselling around lifestyle choices, and assistance from a pharmacist to manage medication. Later on, this same person may require hospitalization or care from a range of practitioners to regain their health.

Partner programs are vital. A married woman who is unable to disclose her HIV status to her family or community will need to access supports and services confidentially. She might not come to Casey House, but will visit the Health Bus in her community, or connect to Voices of Positive Women at a local hospital.
