REMEMBERING DR. JOAN LESMOND The candle was lit in the window of Casey House for Dr. Lesmond, our former Chief Nursing Executive and Director of Professional Practice. More |
Sadly, Dr. Lesmond died on August 5, 2011, after a brief illness. We mourn her passing and celebrate the many contributions she made to health care in Ontario and, in particular, to Casey House, where Dr. Lesmond was a nursing leader for many years until 2007.
Past president of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, Dr. Lesmond also served as Chair of the Ontario Caregiver Coalition, as an educator at Ryerson University, as a mentor at Women’s Health in Women’s Hands Community Health Clinic, and sat on a number of boards including Women’s College Hospital and Health Force Ontario. She served on the Community Planning Committee as past president of Regent Park Community Health Centre, and was most recently Executive Director of the St. Elizabeth Health Care Foundation.
A recipient this year of the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award, Dr. Lesmond was driven by twin passions for health care and social justice. Her determination, innovation and gregarious personality opened doors to many advancements in our province. She will be missed.
