On March 6, 2010, more than 400 guests filled the elegant Regency Ballroom at the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto for SnowBall 2010 – Some Like it Haute!, a gala benefit for Casey House, presented by BMO Financial Group and the Bay. The event grossed $300,000, with revenues directed to Casey House community programs for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Event Co-Chairs were Suzanne Boyd and Wayne Clark. “Thank you for joining us to honour and support Casey House,” said Boyd. “Having been close witnesses to the profound impact of HIV/AIDS on the fashion and arts community for decades, Wayne and I are honoured to support this ongoing cause and serve as your co-chairs for SnowBall 2010. Tonight we celebrate dedication, generosity and hope.”

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of The Casey Awards, celebrating leadership and volunteerism in the fields of HIV/AIDS and social justice. The awards were created in honour of June Callwood, a founder of Casey House. On hand to present the The Casey Awards were Kevin Kelly, Director of Commercial Operations for Merck, and Andrea Hopson, Vice President, Tiffany and Company Canada. This year’s recipients of The Casey Awards are:

  • Tony Di Pede, for over 20 years an outstanding advocate for people and communities who are marginalized because of HIV/AIDS, age, disability or poverty; and
  • The AIDS Committee of Toronto, for over 25 years a pioneering organization in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Canada, and an important catalyst for the growth of numerous other HIV/AIDS service organizations, including BlackCAP, Voices of Positive Women and Casey House.

Following dinner, the crowd was wowed by a spectacular cabaret performance by Tony Award-winning Jane Krakowski of TV’s “30 Rock” and “Ally McBeal”. Ms. Krakowski’s stellar performance was made possible by a generous donation by Nancy Pencer, helping to guarantee that SnowBall 2010 – Some Like it Haute! was a night never to be forgotten.

Casey House extends our deep thanks to the many committee members, volunteers, sponsors and staff, as well as attendees and silent auction donors, who made this important fundraising event possible. Thank you to all!
